I don't think I'm the only first-time mum who gets to the end of the day and realises that she hasn't done one single thing that she used to do. I used to read blogs about new music so I would know which bands were worth a listen. Now I read blogs about potty training and couldn't tell you one single from the top ten.
I used to bake one familiar recipe and one new recipe each week and if the new one was good, I'd lovingly hand copy it into my baking notebook. The reasons for me not being in formal employment are fodder for another entry, for now I'll just say it's what works best for us. But some days, I'd very much like a full time job that meant adult contact because I reach a point where I realise I'm singing The Wheels On The Bus even though Sam is upstairs napping.
I imagine when I have two cherubs under the age of three, this feeling of detachment from my pre-mummyhood will get a bit more pronounced. So I'm giving myself a little challenge, Friday nights are going to be for trying out new hobbies or even just catching up on current events, it's alarming to admit I have a politics degree and sometimes only have a vague awareness of which party is in power!
